CSS were awarded the contract to refurbish 3 aging Scania appliance, this would include an extensive rewiring program and full re-spray. Although still in very good condition these appliances had been operational for eight years and BFRS took the decision to upgrade them to the same specification as their current fleet of rescue appliances built by Angloco.
BFRS Group Commander Andy Draper said, “We were pleased to award the contract for the refurbishment to CSS Fire Vehicles Limited formally known as Carmichaels, who have completed the work to a very high standard and we look forward to working with them again in the future”. “This work has enabled us to continue to use these vehicles in our fleet while bringing them up to modern standards. This means we have saved money and improved our fleet capacity without needing to purchase new vehicles. It’s a win-win for us, being able to get the best out of our appliances and ensure they have up-to-date equipment and facilities available to our firefighters.”
“We here at CSS were delighted to be chosen by BFRS and embraced the challenge to ensure the three appliances were as close as possible to the current B/Type vehicles within the BFRS fleet. Our Electrical Engineers worked very closely with BFRS Fleet Engineers to ensure complete understanding and compliance with the BFRS specification.
CSS would like to thank BFRS in particular, GC Andy Draper and his team for their co-operation during the project and we sincerely hope to work with BFRS again in the future”.
